Who we are

Pam common art collective is an artist-led organisation which works at a grassroots level to support an ecosystem of inclusive artistic activity in East Cardiff.

We believe creativity is a fundamental aspect of the human experience, and that anyone has the potential to thrive when support and resources are accessible.

We work with artists and local residents to have conversations that are rooted in this place through a programme of events, residencies, meals, workshops and sharings.

Our History

Pam grew out of Made in Roath, a festival and community arts organisation founded in 2009. Made in Roath was a festival that ran 2009 - 2018, hyper local to Roath, that supported hundreds of artists to make work with and for the local community.

In 2018 the Made in Roath festival held 300 events over 100 venues including open houses, community halls, parks, corner shops, empty buildings, churches, markets and gardens.

Since 2019 Pam has been focused on working with specific communities who are lesser heard, and less likely to have access to resources.

Meet the team

  • I’m an artist and an organiser, and I joined Pam in 2014, initially as a volunteer and then developing my own artwork - MY GOD THE THINGS I COULD TELL YOU ABOUT CARDIFF. It was a newspaper I made in 2014 about a pub that was threatened with closure. It couldn’t have happened without Pam’s support, which is true of so many artists I know.

Pam gives us a structure to play, invite, challenge, create, listen, and think together. I’m really happy to be part of the team!

  • I’m an artist, mostly a painter but also sculpture and objects. I’m also one of the co-founders of Pam, and I’m interested in seeing where creativity is within the community, and working out ways for people to share their work.

My favourite project is the Open, which I organise each year. It’s amazing to see what people have been making, but also really special that people come back year after year, possibly only showing that one piece in this one show each time.

  • I’m one of the founders of Pam having been with the organisation since 2009. I’m a past librarian, and therefore I have a great love of the library and reading room.

I’m excited about Pam and the possibilities of where we sit in the community. I enjoy seeing how we can make a difference and how to make welcoming spaces for people to gather together and co-create.

  • Nasima is the founder and, together with the group members, a co-creator of both Chatterbox and The Healing Project. Her role with Chatterbox is to maintain and create a safe space for Muslm Women Artists in Wales to connect and meet like minded artists and create and share opportunities for artist development within the arts. This often involves holding spaces for artist discussions and bringing in Muslim artist speakers to events to inspire others to grow in their professional development.

Nasima’s role in The Healing Project is to arrange and facilitate meetings with a steering group to come together to hold spaces for creative activities for the community. All the members of the steering group are artists from Chatterbox and this requires Nasima to listen to everyone’s ideas and support the artists to work collaboratively to run creative events that invites the public to have an opportunity to get involved in collaborative art pieces.

Meet the board

  • I’m 24 and currently work as a learning disability support worker. I’m passionate about social work and working with vulnerable people within the community. In my spare time I enjoy crocheting as a way of distressing and unwinding but I have also enjoyed working with mosaics although I haven’t had a creative space for a while.

In the future I would love to bring together my passion for community and art and see where it goes 😊

  • I am an artist and arts worker. In my practice I work with text, film, print, sound and performance. I am also a Director of g39, an art gallery and resource space based in the Roath area of Cardiff. I have worked with Pam on many occasions over the years in various ways, as an artist, in partnership with g39 and as a friend. I believe the work Pam does is vital to the arts in Wales and beyond and that they are experts at what they do. I’m delighted to join their board and help in whatever way I can.

  • I’m a processwork psychotherapist and facilitator, having worked in community development and the arts for many years. I get excited about things that surprise me and how the arts and being creative can support community, connection and different ways of seeing the world.

The things that draws me to Pam are their commitment to taking time, building up relationships and responding to specific interests of people in their neighbourhood. A slow burn approach to involving people in making, creating and being together - through making art.

  • I am an artist living in Bristol; I make colourful sculptures and images, with textiles, ceramics and paint.

Made in Roath first supported me to make experimental work for their festival in 2014. I love the breadth of projects they develop, their truly inclusive approach, and excitement for different types of contemporary art. I'm very happy to be able to support PAM as a board member.

  • My name is Samar and I am into textile and up cycling materials. Anything we can save from the landfill is my priority. I like working with Pam because they are open to all kind of ideas and they promote opportunities for all sorts.
